"You promised."

What the hell? Sammy?! *tries to shake some sense back into him and then hugs him tight*
I don't read spoilers but I knew a little of what this episode'd be about and I expected it to be a little more "relaxing", a chance to breath after all the angst lately. Boy, was I wrong!
A dark, stormy night at thePrancing Pony Pierpont Inn, a beautiful but creepy old mansion, that has "haunted" written all over it. Inside Tyler and her "imaginary friend" - Oh, come on. This was so obvious from the beginning - Maia Maggie watch some guy who's going to take away some of their anique toys because the Inn is about to close down and being sold. But the guy's not getting far. While Tyler's playing with some dolls in a huge replica of the house she finds one of them at the bottom of the staircase, it's head turned 180°. Her mother, Susan, discovers the same scene. Just the real version.
And our boys? They are searching for Ava, have been for a month but without any result. Seems like Sam thinks she has been kidnapped by the demon. I wouldn't be so sure. Of course Sam feels responsible for what happened to her since he was the one who sent her home. Because he thought she was save there which made a lot of sense at that time. I like the map they have on the wall with the places the psychics come from marked. Sam even got a little pentacle. Anyway, Ellen has a job, our haunted Inn and Sam wants to look into it. He's really calm and reasonable which seems a little odd at the moment.
"I'm not givig up on her but I'm not gonna let other people die either. I gotta save as many people as we can."
"Wow! That attitude is just way too healthy for me. I'm officially uncomfortable now, thank you."
Outside the Inn Sam finds a five spot, a Hoodoo symbol to ward off enemies:

Then the boys check in:
"Let me guess, you guys are here antiquing?"
"How'd you know?"
"You just... look the type."
"So, a king-sized bed."
"What? Eh.. no... no. No. We're... two singles. We're just brothers."
"Oh, I'm so sorry."
"What'd you mean that we look the type?"

Bwaaaah! *rofl*
In their room - with a white dress hanging at the wall:

What the hell? - Dean still doesn't really get over the whole king-sized bed thing:
"Well, the most troubling question is: Why do these people asume we're gay."
"Well you are pretty butch. They probably think you're overcompensating."
In other news: All victims were somehow connected to the place shutting down.
Later Sam finds another Hoodoo five spot symbol thingy. Inside a vase. How the hell did he see that while walking by? New psychic power? The knock at a door saying "Private" and when Susan opens and has THE idea on how to get in:
"Hey, are those antique dolls? Cause this one... this one here, he's got a major doll collection. Back home, don't you? Huh?"
"Dean? Die! Big Time."
"Big time, yeah. You think we could come in and take a look?"
"I don't know."
"Please? I mean he loves them. He's not gonna tell you this but he's dressing them up in these little tiny outfits and... you would make his day. She would. Huh? Huh?"
"Did I already tell you to die, Dean? It's true."
*giggles* Poor Sammy. Sometimes it sucks working with your big brother, doesn't it? But Dean's idea works.

Wow! I knew Sam was tall but that tall? :p
So, there's all these creepy dolls and this replica and apparently a sick grandma who doesn't leave her room and probalby grew up in the hotel. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a suspect. Sam and Dean split up do do some research.
"No surfing porn. That's not the kind of whacking I mean."
That joke is starting to get old. It's fine as a running gag but not in every single episode.
Susan signs the papers and learns that the company that bought the house plans to demolish it. I think I know someone who's not going to live much longer. And while Tyler is playing and humming - WTF? The melodie from Hush? "Can't even shout, can't even cry The Gentlemen are coming by..." - a door in the replica moves and so does the real door. I like how the scene switches between the replica and the room. It's creepy.
Sam watches the Coroner taking away the body and he doesn't look good. But I like the shot:

When Dean comes back after talking to Susan and telling her that they're not going to check out, Sam's sitting in a chair, drunk. This is so not Sammy, trying to drown his problems with alcohol. I don't mean this in a bad script or OOC way but as in: OMG! Somethings going really wrong here. Seems like the Big Secret is dangerous in more than the obvious way: When Dean kept it to himself he was on edge. And now, as Sam knows ist, he's the one who's on edge.
Sam tells Dean that he should've been able to save the guy who hang himself/got hanged. He knows that he can't save everyone but that doesn't matter to him rigth now. It's like everything he does that's not perfectly good means a step towards evil, towards the dark side. Sam's so desperate to flee his destiny, to not become what the demon wants him to that he's actually more vulnerable now, more in danger than he was before. I was angry with John and Dean that they didn't tell Sam about what they knew because I thought he had the right to know. But though I still think that he has his family probably really was keeping him save by not telling him.
"The more people I save the more I can change."
"Change what?"
"My destiny, Dean."
No, Sam, I don't think that's how it works. He can't just fulfill a quota and everythings fine. It's not that simple. But neither is he evil because he can't save everyone. I'm sure he knows he's talking nonsense. He doesn't believe that himself even when he's drunk. But I also know that he's desperate because he's facing something he doesn't know how to fight.
"Even now everyone around me dies."
You're a hunter, Sam. You go to where people die to try and save those who are still alive. It's true, if he was living a nice and normal life right now people around him probably wouldn't die. Well, or they would because YED'd kill them and Sam probably wouldn't be able to live a normal life but, erm... that was not where I was planing to go right now. The point is: Even more people'd die if he wasn't there to save them.
Dean tries to not take all of this too seriously. Tries to convince himself that Sam reacts that way because he's drunk. He going to bring him to bed, going to watch out for him and tomorrow everything is going to be... better again. He knows that's not true but I think Sam acting that way truely scares him. And he's even blaming John for telling him the secret in the first place which is like... woah! Dean questioning his fathers actions? But I don't think that it's his father he's angry with. It's the situation he's angry with, the feeling of helplessness. Becasue he's not any more able to fight this right now than Sam is.
And now Sam's asking him to kill him should he turn. It's like in Croatoan: Sam doesn't want to become someone... something that's not him and that he can't control. Dean's the one to keep him save so he wants, he needs his brother to keep him save from that as well. That's a hell of a lot to ask of Dean. To kill his own brother who he watched out for all his life. Who's the one person he cares about.
"You have to promise me."
"I promise."
Dean promises because he knows Sam''s stubborn and he'll ask until he does. But he doesn't want to give that promise, doesn't know if he'll be able to keep it.

Erm...okay. I think that scene was the first time ever I actually did see a hint of Wincest in an episode. The way Sam reaches out and touches Dean and Dean slaps away his hand like: "You're drunk and we're not going there." Did Kripke read to many fanfics or something

*stares* Yeah...erm.. where was I?
Dean talks to Sherman and learns that Rose, Susan's mother, had a nanny she was very close too and who seemingly knew a thing or two about Hoodoo.
"They aren't happy now?"
"Well, would you be, leaving the only home you ever knew?"
"I don't know. I never really knew one."
That's such a sad line especially because it's just thrown in some random conversation.
The next morning Sammy has some hell of a hangover and Dean's teasing him about it because... just look at Sam, he's practically begging for it. Sam having a hangover is like the cutest thing ever. His hair. Thiiii!

But this one line:
"I bet you don't remember a thing from last night."
That's not really teasing. It's actually saying: Please don't remember because then we can pretend I never made that promise. Then it just never happend. When Sam doesn't really react on it, Dean takes it as a "I don't remember." and you can see the relief showing on his face. It looks like he starts breathing again.
"I hate you."
"I know you do."
How many Winchester versions of "I love you." are there?
Sam's back on his feet pretty fast so they can pay grandma Rose a visit. It turns out that the woman had a stroke and isn't able to move let alone perform Hoodoo stuff.
"You know, she could be faking."
"Yeah, what do you wanna do? Poke her with a stick? ... Dude, you're not gonna poke her with a stick."
What? It was your idea, Sammy. :p
Susan catches them in Rose's room, throws them out and the Winchetser boys drive away. Or rather pretend to drive away.
Maggie is pissed when Susan calls her "imaginary" and while everything on the playground starts moving, the replica and the real one, Susan's almost run over by her car if it wasn't for Sam who saves her. Dean tells her the truth about what's going on.
"You're insane."
"It's been said."
Sam's really... Sam again in the next scene which is nice to see.
It turns out that Rose actually was working Hoodoo to protect her family from her dead sister Margaret. When Rose had the stroke and couldn't work her spells any more Margeret - who of course happens to be Tyler's "imaginary friend" Maggie - came back and started killing everyone who wanted to take Tyler from her. And she's going as far as killing Tyler the way she died to make her stay: She tries to drown her in the pool.
Sam tries to smash the window - With his right arm. You want to keep tha cast even longer? - while Dean and Susan try to find another way in. It's Sam who gets in first and pulls the lifeless girl out of the water while the music tells us how important that scene's for Sam. How important it is for him to save her. I was begging Tyler to breath. And finally she does. See, Sam, you saved her.

And Maggie? Rose is willing to stay with her so Susan and Tyler can leave. Now the sisters are playing in the house. We don't know for how long. Maybe the house'll be demolished, maybe Maggie will continue to kill everyone who tries to take her home and her family from her. The Winchetser boys won't be around to stop her. Tyler tells them that Maggie is gone. I think she knows that Maggie and Rose are still around but she's naive enough to still believe that they're just girls like her. And maybe in a way she's right. In a creepy way. I love the score in this episode.
"Well, you saved the Mom, you saved the girl. Not a bad day. Of course, you know, I could've saved them myself but I didn't want you to feel useless."
On the outside Dean's joking but it's true: Sam needed to be the one to save Tyler. And I hope the fact that he was able to at least helped a little.
And then we learn that Sam unfortuately does rememeber what Dean promised him the night before and that he still means it, when he's sober.
"You promised."

I don't read spoilers but I knew a little of what this episode'd be about and I expected it to be a little more "relaxing", a chance to breath after all the angst lately. Boy, was I wrong!
