Okay, this episode, that's why I'm a Sam!girl.

I loved how the episode raised the supernatural ?= evil question and how it dealt with it. I was waiting for an episode on that topic.

We start - after the whole "then" part that is. Great "musicvideo" again - with a girl running through the woods. She's terrified. Someone's following her. She hides behind a tree. And just when she thinks she's save she loses her head. Literally.
Since I knew this episode was about vampire (I guess I'll never menage to stay completely spoiler free) I was like: Yeah, so she was a vampire and that guy that hunted her was the good guy. But even when you're sure you know what's going on Kripke and his crew will surprise you.

Then we see the boys on the road with the Impala the usual beginning of every good Supernatural epi... wait a second: The boys on the road with the Impala?! Wheeeee! She's back! Metallicar's back!

"Listen to her purr! Have you ever heard anything so sweet?"
"You know, if you two want to get a room just let me know, Dean."
"Oh, don't listen to him, baby. He doesn't understand us."

I love how Dean pets her steering wheel. Reminds me of the end of PotC. As I said to [livejournal.com profile] dimturien Dean Winchester and Metallicar is like Captain Jack Sparrow and the Black Pearl.
And yes, she does purr and hell, I missed that sound.

Sammy's new hairstyle... I got used to it pretty quickly. I somehow miss the emo mob but it's not too bad the way it is now.

Sam and Dean try to get information about some decapitations and cattle mutilations in Red Lodge, Montana. First they ask the local sheriff some questions posing as reporters, but they don't really seem to be able to remember the name of their newspaper

"World Weekly News..."
"Weekly World News."
"World..."
"Weekly World..."
"Weekly... I'm new."

Then they try their luck in the local hospital and after some minor problems - John, Jeff, doctor's on vacation - can take a look at the headless girl and her head and find out that she was a vampire. Seems like this is going to be a vampire hunt.

The boys meet Gordon Walker, a (vampire) hunter who says he once met John and who also tells them that he prefers to hunt alone.

He's lucky that the Winchesters don't really care what he wants and save him from a vampire beheading him with an electic saw. Uah! *shivers* Instead Dean kills the vampire with the saw and he seems to have way to much fun doing it. Plus the blood on his face... creepy. And Sam looks like he's anything but happy with this.

Gordon buys them a drink for saving him and he and Dean seem to get along really well while Sam still looks very uncomfortabel.

"You all right, Sammy?"
"I'm fine."
"Well, lighten up a little, Sammy."
"He's the only one who gets to call me that."

So, Dean officially is allowed to call him "Sammy" now?

Sam leaves so it's just Dean and his new best friend. Gordon tells him how he became a hunter and... Dean starts talking a bit about John and about how he feels. Wow! Gordon, you're a sadist but thanks for that.

"Yeah. Yeah, you know. He was just one of those guys. Took some terrible beatings, just kept coming. So you're always thinking to yourself, he's indestructible. He'll always be around, nothing can kill my dad. Then just like that he's gone. I can't talk about this to Sammy. You know, I gotta keep my game face on. But the truth is I'm not handling it very well."

It's pretty obvious but that's he first time he admits it. Perhaps he should try to not keep on his "game face" so much?

Meanwhile Sam calls Ellen to ask her about Gordon. That's a way I'd really be okay with the Roadhouse being part of the show, the boys turning to Ellen for some information now and then. Ellen tells him that Gordon is a good hunter but they should stay away from him because he's also dangerous.
There's just black and white for him no shades of gray.

Sam's outside the motel room getting a soda and he hears something. I think he also feels that something's wrong. Back in the motel room he get's attacked and kidnapped. Sammy, you're a psychic you should really, really trust your intuition.
My first thought: Dean will rescue him.

Sam finds himself in the vampire's nest tied up to a chair and facing Lenore (Amber!).

When she tells him that she just wants to talk of course he's more than sceptical.

"Talk? Yeah, okay, but I might have a tough time paying attention to much besides Eli's teeth."
"He won't hurt you either, you have my word."
"Your word? Oh yeah, great, thanks. Listen lady, no offense but you're not the first vampire I've met."
"We're not like the others. We don't kill humans, and we don't drink their blood. We haven't for a long time."
"What is this, some kind of joke?"
"Notice you're still alive."

She has a point. She tells him that they feed on cattle. Remember the cattle mutilations? Mystery solved.

"We have a right to live, we're not hurting anyone."

And again she has a point. Isn't the first part about the same thing Luthor said in "Dead Man's Blood" except that they did kill people?
To prove her point Lenore let's Sam go and says that they'll leave the same night.

Back at the motel Dean and Gordon are planing to hunt the vampires. Want him as a new partner, Dean?
Sam comes back and asks Dean if they can talk alone because he doesn't trust Gordon after what Ellen told him. But he has a hard time to convince Dean that the vampire's don't harm anyone.

"What part of 'vampires' don't you understand, Sam? If it's supernatural, we kill it, end of story. That's our job."

Wait a second. Sam has supernatural powers. So you're going to hunt him one day too? I'm just asking.

"No, Dean, that is not our job. Our job is hunting evil. And if these things aren't killing people, they're not evil!"

Exactly!

"He's a substitute for Dad, isn't he? A poor one. [...] He's not even close, Dean. Not on his best day. [...] You know, you slap on this big fake smile but I can see right through it. Because I know how you feel, Dean. Dad's dead. And he left a hole, and it hurts so bad you can't take it, but you can't just fill up that hole with whoever you want to. It's an insult to his memory."

Erm... ouch! That hurt. That was about the path Dean took in ElaC just Sam's way of it. Would you stop that, Sam?

Did Dean just hit Sam? Tell me he didn't! I so flinched. And Sammy for a short moment gets a WTF? look on his face before it turns to anger. Not anger like... anger but like calm completely in control anger. And then - deep breath - he buries that feeling. Not good. Or it fades again very quickly which sounds much better.

Gordon's gone and he took the keys of the Impala with him. But luckily Dean knows a thing or two about cars and Sam doesn't need to have seen the way to find it again.

When they arrive at the vampire's nest Gordon is in the middle of torturing Lenore and enjoying it. And even if she was evil that'd be too much. But Sam won't let him go on with that and Dean supports him because whatever happens no one theatens his brother.
We also learn that Gordon's sister hasn't been killed by vampires but turned into one and Gordon had to kill her. Charles Gunn, anyone?

Sam picks Lenore up and carries her out of the room. Beautiful picture, really.

She's the innocent and that's what hunting really is about (now) for Sam: Saving the innocent. Even if they are supernatural creatures. There are shades of grey after all.

Dean's completely on Sam's side on this now. Not neccessarily because he really believes that supernatural beings can be innocent but because he believes Sam. And he saw Lenore trying. And no matter what, what Gordon did was wrong.

"You're not like your brother. You're a killer, like me."
"You know, I might be like you, and I might not. But you're the one tied up right now."

Dean might in some way be like Gordon. But he has something... oh right, a sense of justice. And Sam.

When they exit the farm house Dean asks Sam to hit him. Of course Sam won't because that's just not how he is. But I guess that scene in front of the motel room: Forgiven and forgotten.
Dean starts questioning what he did his whole life because he now sees the shades of grey and they make things so much more complicated.
But I'll just let the last few lines speak for themselves:

"I wish we never took this job, just... jacked everything up."
"What do you mean?"
"Think about all the hunts we went on, Sammy, our whole lives."
"Okay."
"What if we killed things that didn't deserve killing? You know? I mean, the way Dad raised us..."
"Dean, after what happened to Mom, Dad did the best he could."
"I know he did. But the man wasn't perfect. And the way he raised us, to hate those things. And man, I hate them. I do. When I killed that vampire at the mill I didn't even think about it. Hell, I even enjoyed it."
"You didn't kill Lenore."
"No, but every instinct told me to. I was gonna kill her. I was gonna kill them all."
"Yeah, Dean, but you didn't. And that's what matters."
"Yeah. Well, cause you're a pain in my ass."
"Guess I might have to stick around to be a pain in the ass then."
"Thanks."
"Don't mention it."

I think they just took a huge step in the right direction. And it's so good to be able to smile again when the screen turns black at the end of an episode.

Warum bin ich schon wieder ausgeloggt?

Ach was, who cares.

*herzchenaugen*

She's back! Metallicar's back!

Dean Winchester and Metallicar is like Captain Jack Sparrow and the Black Pearl.
*kicher* Wie war das noch gleich? "Dean will fix it!"?

And yes, she does purr and hell, I missed that sound.
:gruebel:

Sammy's new hairstyle...
:manwe:

John, Jeff, doctor's on vacation
Mich hat's zerrissen... Das John war nicht unabsichtlich gewählt... *wein*

So, Dean officially is allowed to call him "Sammy" now?
*tihi*

It's pretty obvious but that's he first time he admits it. Perhaps he should try to not keep on his "game face" so much?
:nick:

Wait a second. Sam has supernatural powers. So you're going to hunt him one day too? I'm just asking.
Oh, good point! Aber wirklich good point....

Did Dean just hit Sam?
Japp. :uhoh:

But I guess that scene in front of the motel room: Forgiven and forgotten.
Jepp.

And it's so good to be able to smile again when the screen turns black at the end of an episode.

Oh, good point! Aber wirklich good point....
