Too far gone

I knew that there was still more to the Tony storyline the moment he tried to convince Kara to set up a meeting with Alan.
I'm so glad they turned that one around in the end and made Tony's character somewhat believable again. What he did to get his revenge was still all kinds of wrong but at least now I can understand his motives. That's the hurt, heart-broken, messed up kind of wrong I was talking about. For 4 years the only things keeping him upright was finding and killing the man that is responsible for Michelle's death.* And in those 4 years he cared about no one and nothing, except maybe Emerson. And of course Tony couldn't tell Jack or anyone because he knew they would try to stop him. I'm still shocked that Tony was willing to sacrifice Jack like that to reach his goal because, like Jack said, they were friends once. But I guess Tony was just too far gone. But at least in the end he was Tony again. Lost, broken, hardly a shadow of his former self and on an oh so wrong path - and he does know it. He just doesn't care any more - but Tony.
But, you know, as much as I cringed every time Tony was in danger in those last two episodes because I was almost certain he wouldn' survive this season, now I almost wish he hadn't. I can hardly believe I'm saying this but he's gone anyway. So why didn't they let him die, in Jack's arms, for good this time? I believe that Jack would still have been able to forgive him, because part of him does understand. Why didn't they let Tony find peace? He's suffered enough.
* I'm going to ignore the part about his unborn son, simply because that's been so overused it's not even suprising any more, let alone shocking
Wheee! My new Chucks just arrived and our postman handed them over to me with the words "It's teatime! ... I suppose."
