gwaevalarin: (Bloodlust)

I love movies like The 6th Sense and The Others and I love that my show can do that kind of story as well without just copying those movies. This episode wasn't that much character based but more storyline based. And though the character depth is one of the main reasons why I love my show I enjoyed this a lot.

Dark, lonely road somewhere in the woods. Perfect place for a haunting. And a couple who lost there way (though David'd never admit it) are the perfect victims. On the other hand the way they fight and banter and flirt and whatever while driving you really don't need anything Supernatural for an accident. Though a man standing in the middle of the road helps. And yeah, there are trees in the woods. They've been there a while and won't go away just because a car rushes towards them.
Molly wakes up a little disoriented but fine otherwise. How are one's chances of surviving an accident like that pretty much without a scratch? Right: About zero. Should have noticed. I should have noticed a lot in that episode. It's so easy when you know the answers.
Anyway: David's gone. Like he decided to walk the remaining distance to whereever they wanted to go and just leave his wife behind. So there Molly is, alone in the dark. Sure, shout your husband's name so whatever haunts these woods can hear you and walk towards the creepy house - I know, she doesn't know that she's in a supernatural show. I'd still rather climb back up to the road than walk further into the woods.
At the latest, when you walk into a hunting cabin and the first thing you see is blood and knives and a guy you just ran over standing with the back to you and not reacting to you there's just one thing you should do: Run! Or wait until he's turning around and there's a lot of blood and guts and face changing.

Oh, a car. Lucky girl. I know that car. Lucky, lucky girl. When I run from a ghost I want to run straight into Sam and Dean as well. Even if that means being almost run over by the Impala. Actually being run over by the Impala doesn't sound like the worst death. Metallicar comes to a halt and purrs on. I love that sound.
Of course Sam's all calming her down while Dean's more "Where's the ghost?" And while Molly tells her story the boys share a few knowing looks.

Sam and Dean try to convince her to leave with them but she refuses to go. I can understand that. I wouldn't just leave my boyfriend (or husband in her case) behind not knowing what has happened to him and if he's hurt or if that thing is after him. Just no way. And with Sam and Dean there with her now who wouldn't feel much safer all of a sudden. They drive back to where the wracked car is. Except that it's gone. Just vanished into thin air. And Sam and Dean obviously know more about what's going on than we and Molly do:

"Dean, we've got to get her out of here. Greely could show up at any second."
"What are you gonna tell her?"
"The truth?"
"She's gonna take off running in the other direction."

With things getting weirder and weirder Molly now is willing to let the boys drive her to the next town. She still doesn't seem to like the idea though. In the car when Molly starts talking about herself and David you can already sense that Dean doesn't like her. He looks a little annoyed.

"The only time we were really arguing was when we were stuck in the car."
"Yeah, I know how that goes."

Erm, Sam, are you talking about you and Jess or about you and Dean here?

"The last thing I said to him... I called him a jerk."

So the last thing she said to him was "I love you"? Oh, wait, she probably doesn't speak winchester.

Suddenly the radio turn itself on and plays "House of the Rising Sun" and then changes to a voice saying She's mine when the ghost appears in the middle of the street. Seriously, if I ever happen to hear that song while driving on a lonely street in the night I'll probably freak out. Dean just runs Greely over because... well, why not. But they don't get far cause Metallicar abandons them. As great a car as she is she can't fight a supernatural force. So much for driving Molly to the next town.

I almost feel sorry for the woman. She has this aweful night and then the guys who rescued her open their trunk and there are lots of weapons. They... can explain?

"We weren't just cruising for chicks when we ran into you, sister. We were already out here. Hunting."
"Hunting for what?"
"Ghosts."
"Don't sugarcode it for her."

Molly is pretty hard to convince considering what she already witnessed that night. Come on, girl, look at Sam and tell me that you don't just have to trust him. And the way Dean's acting... it's not personal. Well, not really personal.

"You're serious about this, aren't you?"
"Deadly."

*smirks*

Sam tells her the average ghost story about the guy that got killed 15 years ago and now haunts the place always looking for someone he can punish for what happened to him. And he starts giving small clues that you don't get unless you don't know what's really going on.

"Some spirits only see what they want."

I think he wants to tell her. He wants her to know the truth but he knows what a huge shock the truth will be. So he tells her things that might help her cope with the situation once she finds out. Sam shows a real talent to avoid the truth without actually lying. He never says to her that Greely has her husband and he never says that Molly is not responsible for Greely's dead.
And Dean stays in the background even physically.

He doesn't believe in innocent ghosts and the events in Bloodlust didn't change his mind. For him it's still as simple as: "It's supernatural so we kill it." But like in Bloodlust what Sam believes is more important so Dean backs up his brother. Dean doesn't like the whole plan and he's not giving Sam the illusion that he does but Sam knows that he can count on his brother nevertheless.

They go back to the hunting cabin to try and find Greely's grave. And while Sam goes on explaining everything to Molly there is to know about ghosts and avoiding direct answers to questions about what happened to her husband Dean sees no reason to be nice to her. The way they treat Molly says so much about the boys and how differently they see the supernatural by now.

Okay, Molly, which part of "Stay close" did you not understand? The first time I watched the episode I noticed that Dean didn't care about Molly when he shot Greely with rock salt. But Sam doesn't either, does he? He looks at Dean when he asks "Hey, you alright?"

Is it just me or is the house even more creepy than the hunting cabin?
When Sam goes upstairs Molly would probably have followed him anyway. Dean made it crystal clear he doesn't like her very much while Sam has been the nicest guy around her. But Dean sending her upstairs with Sam is a little like telling Sam that he wanted them to save her and not just hunt Greely so he has to take care of her now.

"Spirits like Greedy they are like wounded animals. Lost. And so much pain they lash out."
"Why? Why are they here?"
"Well, there's some part of them that's keeping them here. Like their remains or... erm, unfinished business."
"Unfinished business?"
"Yeah, could be revenge, could be... love. Or hate. Whatever it is they just hold on too tight and can't let go. So they're trapped. Caught in the same loops they're playing the same tragedy over and over."
"You sound almost sorry for them."
"Well, they weren't evil people, you know. A lot of them were good just... something happened to them. Something they couldn't control."

Of course Sam tells her this mainly because he knows what's happened to her but I think he also really believes it. He believes that spirits are not truely evil but rather confused even the ones that kill. Of course he still hunts them to keep them from hurting someone.
And the last sentences... sounds a little like Sam's also talking about himself, doesn't it? Maybe he looks at ghost from a different angle than Dean because he can to a certain extend relate to what happened to them.
Dean on the other hand doesn't see the parallel because when it comes to the rules how the supernatural world works and how you deal with it they exclude his little brother.

Why does Dean alsways find the hidden doors? And what kind of door is that anyway? Why do you have to crawl through it? And why would someone hang themself in there of all places?

"We can't leave her like this."
"Why not?"

Good question. She's not haunting the place so she obvioulsy doesn't mind. As far as I can tell she is at rest. But okay, now you can bury someone instead of digging them up for a change.

Hm, maybe part of Molly does know what's happened to her. She's asking a lot of questions about ghosts and what happens to them after they've been "put to rest". And again Dean doesn't care. They are evil so why should he care. You get rid of them and that's all that matters. Sam tries to find an answer because when the supernatural isn't just evil any more things get a lot more complicated.

"After they let go whatever's keeping them here... they just go. I hope some place better but we don't know. No one does."
"What happens when you burn their bones."
"Uhm.. well, my dad used to say that it was like death for ghosts, you know, but truth is we still don't know. Not for sure. guess that's why we all hold on to life so hard. Even in death. We're all just scared of the unknown."

For [livejournal.com profile] dimturien:

They really should tell her about her husband since it seems like not knowing what happened to him is what's holding her. Of course that means they had to tell her the whole story but they'll have to do that sooner or later anyway. But right now they still need her to get Greely and letting him escape to help Molly... as much as Dean respects that Sam wants to help her he won't let that happen.

Oh, House of the Rising Sun again.

And Molly's standing right by the window. How stupid can you be?

"You're like a walking encyclopedia of weirdness."

*giggles* That's true. I wonder why Sam even needs a laptop. Except for porn of course. :p
And there the boys go. Sam mainly to save Molly and Dean to kill Greely. Kinda strange that Dean's the one who tries to free Molly and Sam the one who salts and burn the bones.
Hell, that ghosts pretty strong. Sam, would you please hurry?

So, now Metallicar should be able to bring them out of there so te boys can show Molly what'shappened to her husband. Molly doesn't even notice that Sam's voice is saying "I'm sorry." while he tells her that her husband is alive.

That next scene completely confused me when I saw it for the first time. I don't know why but the now pretty obvious answer just didn't occur to me. My thoughts rather took the direction of alternate life and he doesn't remember anything but how should a ghost be able to do something like that. Bö? Yeah, well, sometimes I'm a little slow.
Must be terrible to see that. I mean people always say that when something happens to them they want their loved ones to go on and of course you really do want them to be happy again but actually seeing how they live on without you still must hurt like hell.

I love those small flashbacks that tell you the story again from another angle.

"Dean, I don't think she knows she's dead."

And now Dean does look like he feels sorry for her as well. He can't completely ignore that she's a spirit that's not trying to hurt anyone. Of course she killed Greely and caused all those accidents but not on purpose.

And then Sammy becomes Ghost Whisperer and helps her move on. And he does a better job than Jennifer Love Hewitt.

"Molly, we brought you here so you could move on."
"No, I have to tell him."
"Tell him what? That you love him? And you're sorry? He already knows that. Look, if you want to go in there we're not gonna stop you."
"Yeah, but you're gonna freak him right out. For life."
"David's already said his goodbyes, Molly. Now it's your turn. This is your unfinished business."
"What am I supposed to do?"
"Just let go. Of David. Everything. You do that, we think you move on."
"But you don't know where."
"No. But Molly you don't belong here. Haven't you suffered long enough? It's time. It's time to go."

Is Dean looking at Molly or at Sam?

Sam looks once more like he's carrying the weight of the whole world on his shoulders. And there's another question: Does it make a difference if the spirits go on voluntarily or if they are forced by being salted and burned. It obviously makes a difference on how they go on but also on where they go to?

"Hope's kinda the whole point."

And once more: Are you talking about ghosts or about your own destiny, Sam?
