God has left the building

Erm... wow!
You know, it's funny: There wasn't really anything surprising about this episode. Some people on my flist complained about that and I do see where they come from. Lucifer's rising, well that's what the episode title said. Heaven isn't all that nice, I guessed that a while ago. Ruby is a manipulative bitch, I didn't exactly know that but I never really trusted her...
I still loved the episode. Partly because there's the small things. What's happening might not have been surprising but the how and why certainly was. And partly because I think I never really expected a season finale but the set-up for a one season long finale next year. And that's exactly what the episode achieved.
Heaven: I never trusted the angels and I knew that Zachariah had something bad in mind. What I didn't expect was that Heaven as a whole wanted the Apocalypse just as much as hell wanted it. Which, in my book, makes them no better than the demons. And now it seems like we get exactly what I wanted since the angels entered the room: Sam and Dean (and Cas) fighting for human kind against Heaven and Hell.
Just one question: Does that make Uriel one of the good guys now?
Hell: They surely went through some trouble to free Lucifer. Azazel setting everything up for decades - which probably isn't that long if you're a demon - Lilith being the seal and Ruby pushing Sam in the "right" direction. And Ruby's right with one thing: She was good. I never trusted her but I wasn't sure which side she's on. Until Sam got the fake message from Dean. Bitch!
I do believe, though, that Ruby did have feelings for Sam. Or at least the Sam she wanted him to be.
Sam: Oh, Sammy! Right to the end he wanted to stop it. He did take a dark road but deep down, in his soul, he never turned into a monster.
If Dean had arrived just a minute earlier I sincerely beleive he could have stopped it. Sam would have listened to him. After all he did hesitate when he heard Dean's voice.
Talking about that scene: How amazing was that? The heartbeat drowning everything and only Dean's voice breaking through just not loud enough.
The moment Sam realised what he has done... it broke my heart (once more) to see all this guilt and pain in his eyes. "I'm sorry." Such a small, simple thing to say in the situation but so honest and I think that's all Dean needed to hear.
Dean: Good thing Bobby was there to give Dean that verbal slap in the face he needed. Before Zachariah put him into a golden cage. And the only thing Dean wanted there was to get to Sam. Find him and save him. Just what Dean has always been about. And that voice mail... so heatbreakingly honest and emotional. Not obviously emotional but that just makes me love it even more.
Castiel: Finally! I'm so proud of you, Cas. &hearts He was struggling all season and it was such a tough decision for him but he finally found the strength and courage to stand up for what he really believes in. It was too late to stop Lucifer from rising but the fight isn't lost yet, it's just started, and I'm sure Sam and Dean take all the help they can get. Welcome to team earth, Cas.
Sam and Dean: The Apocalypse is there but the Winchester boys are a team again. I was half expecting Sam to be the reincarnation of Lucifer or at least his vessel. Well, the latter might still happen but I hope it won't. Because there they are in the eye of the coming storm. They've both had their part in starting the Apocalypse, one breaking the first seal, one breaking the last. They've both been used one by Heaven, one by Hell and thus been driven apart. And now they're reunited bewteen those to forces clashing on earth and threatening to crush human kind. And they're going to stop it. Together.
Is the hiatus over yet?
