Merry Supernatural

Oh boys, oh show! I don't even know where to start.
They changed the writing for this episode. The little Santa hat. I love it.

Sam's "Anticlaus" theorie amuses me to no end. Anticlaus. Seriously. *giggles* Isn't this evil brother thing a theory about Lucifer as well?
And of course Dean was the one to tell Sam there is no Santa. After all he raised him. But there'll be a lot more to say about the Weechesters later in the episode.
Santa's Village looks really creepy. And Dean starts about having a Christmas. But obviously Sammy has some bad Christmas memories. It's not hard to imagine since he spent them in shabby motel rooms just like the rest of his childhood.
And here we go. First flashback of the episode to Christmas Eve of 1991. I love when they explore the boys' childhood. I have to say though I prefer the Wee!Sammy from Something Wicked.
I wonder if that present was really meant for John in the first place.
How did John and Dean manage to keep the truth from Sam that long? There's the guns, there's the Shtriga that attacked Sammy. They probably had to come up with dozens of storied to explain things away. Just to give Sam something remotely close to normal and save for as long as possible. But of course little Sammy is a smart boy and he knows that his brother and father keep secrets from him.
Sam asking about Mary instantly reminded me about that little additional story in the first Origins.
"We only came here to watch."
Okay, that came out really wrong. *lol*
Of course their prime suspect is just some guy who hates his Santa job but needs the money. Oops! But, boys, stop singing. Please?
Hehe! I love how the MotW kills the father and then steals a cookie before it leaves.
"What did Bobby say?"
"That we're morons."
And why didn't you boys call Bobby in the first place? But at least they have a lead now. Meadowsweet. Used for pagan rituals. Human sacrifices to be exact. And Sam tells Dean that virtually all Christmas traditions are pagan. From the winter solstice.
"What are you gonna tell me next? Easter bunny is Jewish?"
Pagan, as well, actually. *smirks*
But back to the new suspect: A pagan god. Who's in a way only reacting to "a neon sign on the front door saying Come kill us!" and giving mild weather in return. Didn't we have pagan god taking human sacrifices in Scarecrow already?
Does Sam really have to ask why Dean suddenly wants to celebrate Christmas? I thought that was pretty obvious. Dean's last chance. There's no: Well, maybe we can do that next year. Or at least so he thinks. Because Sam is going to save him and then there's going to be lots and lots of other years for him. *nods*
But I understand that Sam doesn't want a Christmas party for the same reason. On the one hand it's his last chance as well to celebrate Christmas with his brother. But that'll always be in the back of his mind and make this party some sort of goodbye. And then? Last Sylvester, last birthday... That's all just like a huge clock counting down.
His voice almost breaks when he tries to get out the word "dead".
Second flashback. Still Christmas 1991: Sam found the gun under Dean's pillow and even more important: He found Dad's journal. And he finally wants answers. And Dean desperately wants to keep him away from these things but he has to realise that he can't. And getting angry won't change that. So he tells his little brother the truth. And of course Dean sees his Dad as a superhero who fights evil. Because monsters are real (but Santa's not).
"But Dad said the monsters under my bed weren't real."
"That's because he's already checked under there."
That's funny but at the same time also kind of sad.
Luckily Dean really belives that no monster can get his Dad and that therefore he and Sam are somewhat save as well. But there's Sam's logic that if they got their Mom how can Dad and them be save?
That is too much for little Sammy and Dean doesn't know how to convince his brother that everything will be fine. I don't think he's still sure about that himself. Poor boys. *hugs them both*

Present: The pagan god is a pagan god couple who are pretty pissed that this Jesus guy stole their followers about 2000 years ago. And now they only get a few human sacrifices every year. Sucks.
For some reason the next scene was funnier that in should have been. They're just so chipper like they had invited the boys to a Christmas dinner. Which, in a way, they did.
"Well, if you fudging touch me again I'll fudging kill you!"
"Very good."
*adds fudge to her vocabulary*
But pulling out one of Sam's fingernails? That's where the fun stops. *is mad*
To be honest I didn't think they'd really do that. I expected something to interrupt that ritual in time. At least the neighbour saved Dean's tooth.
The boys take the chance, untie themselves and stake the gods with branches of the Christmas tree. Job done. Merry Christmas.
Back to 1991: It's snowing and Dean wakes Sam and tells him that Dad was here (which makes Dad sound like Santa) and brought a tree and presents. When it's quite obvious that this is Dean's doing. Being the best big brother ever. And even though the presents are not exactly perfect Sammy appreciates what Dean did for him and gives him the present he had wrapped up for Dad earlier.

Don't ask me why but I knew what it would be before Dean unwrapped it. We still don't know if that necklace is a charm or something - after all Bobby gave it to Sam - but now we know why Dean holds to it so dearly and never takes it off. Wow, that gives the scene in Skin when he takes it back a whole new meaning.
And now, even though he didn't like the idea first, Sam pays Dean back what he did for him 16 years ago. Dean gets his Christmas party after all. With a tree and eggnog. Sammy looks a little nervous hoping he got it right and gave Dean what he wanted. And they both got presents for each other. Porn and shaving cream for Sam. Fuel for him and his baby for Dean.
"Merry Christmas, bro."
That sentence killed me.
And then they're sitting in the shabby motel room together watching sports while it starts snowing outside and Metallicar is waiting in front of the window like she's watching over the boys.

The perfect Supernatural Christmas. Because that's the spirit. That's what it is (or should be) about. *wipes away tears* *squishes the boys*
