Day 5 - Somerset
The next day we had a destination not so far away: Somerset and mainly Frome, also known as the hometown of a certain Jenson Button.

Yes, I am that much of a fangirl. Don't tell me you're surprised.
We walked around Frome for about an hour. It appeared a small, sleepy town but that may partly be because it was Sunday morning.

Now, that's a headline I like. *g*

We tried to find our way to the tourist information but for some reason the sign seemed to send us around incircuits circles.
And since it was the day of the Belgium GP (Spa! &hearts) we searched for a sports pub to watch the race. Imagine two girls with a funny accent in a sports pub somewhere in Southern England watching formula 1. We couldn't probably have drawn more attention from the other guests in the pub if he had dressed up in neon green and worn alien masks.
And after making sure that we really were interested in formula 1 there was the unavoidable question:
"Who do you support? Lewis?"
"No, Jenson."
"Button? His time is over."
...
And I had expected that at least in Frome he'd still get some support. *sighs*
The rest of the race one of the guys tried to mock me for supporting Jense. And of course the fact that Jenson's car gave up made that real easy for him. Don't get me wrong: They were all very nice and feeding us with chips and he wasn't mean or anything. It was more like on of my granduncles would try to make fun of me. And, hey, I'm secure in my support for Jenson. I don't have any problems in keeping my faith in him even when no one around me does. ;)
Also sentences like "Doesn't it get boring after the first tow laps?" "Who's leading?" "Where is Lewis?" "And where was Lewis on the starting grid anyway?" somehow told me that they weren't that much of formula 1 fans.
I still had hoped for a little more support for Jenson there. Yeah, well...
After the race we drove on to Glastonbury:

And we even walked up to the Glastonbury Tor. The way is very steep and we arrives there out of breath. But the view and the almost stormy wind up at the Tor were worth the effort.

No comment:

Back home we watched the highlights of the race again since we had missed the press conference and also some of the race while talking to and trying to understand the Frome..er...ians... the guys at the pub. I really have the urge to talk to ITV about the definition of "highlights" though.
Last but not least two pictures that originally didn't turn out too well but I like what they became after I played around with them a little.
