This is true. He didn't even mention he would be featured in "Family Matters" because he wanted the fans to be surprised as the Winchesters were by his appearance, so perhaps he doesn't want people spreading the possibility of him in a future episode for fear of "ruining the surprise."
IDK, I also want to cling to this hope as well. This season has been so rocky and uneven that there has to be a silver lining that everything is gonna be fine and not totally suck. *clings to that hope*
