It's not really the part about Cas being interested in human experiences that I have a problem with. That's perfectly fine. And the scene with Cas watching porn and being all "Humans are weird." about it would probably have been funny and made perfect sense last season.
The main reasons why I have issues with this episode and Castiel's characterisation are: 1. With everything that's going on in Heaven and Castiel losing ground and being so busy with that all season, suddenly he has time to sit around aimlessly and watch porn while Sam and Dean do research? 2. That boner thing. Castiel trying to figure out sexuality, fine. I have no problems with that. But then they should do it right and not use it for some cheap jokes. To me it felt like that scene was written by a 12-year-old. Plus, but that's just my personal view, I kinda would expect an angel in full possession of his powers to also have full control over his vessel. 3. Castiel kissing Meg. Meg kissing him to steal the angel sword worked great. But Cas suddenly deciding to kiss back a demon, one he had just called an abomination, and in the middle of a very serious, life-threatening mission? Doesn't make much sense to me. 4. The dialogue just didn't sound right to me in large parts. Like they were trying too hard to make the characters sound "cool". It just didn't come across as natural as it usually does. Which, by the way, is the main reason why I hate the German dubbing of the show. It has exactly the same problem. Just in every single episode.
About the last scene: You are absolutely right about the way Dean talks about his emotions. But usually you can see them shine through in his actions. And the way he's treated Castiel all season stands in stark contrast to what he claimed in that last scene. And that's what throws me off a little. But, hey, still glad that Dean stopped being a dick for once.
Sorry for being so negative. I hate it that I can't like the episode because I think the concept was great but the execution - by which I mainly mean the writing - just sucked, imo.
Still glad that you enjoyed it and I'm sure there are going to be episodes where I can just join the fangirling again and tell everyone how much I love my show.
