1. Is there a place in England you haven't been to yet, but would love to travel to and why?
There are so many places in England I haven't been to yet. I'd love to visit the north, simply because I always say I love Southern England but truth is, I just never have been to the north so I might love it just as much. Or even more, but I doubt that. I haven't seen much of the Midlands either.
As of actual cities, I'd love to visit Cambridge and York. Not particular reason, though.
2. What do you think about people who present their private life like an open book on the internet for everyone to see?
I'm not the least interested in the private life of people I don't even know but it's really up to them how much of themselves and their lives they want to reveal on the internet - given they are grown ups and I can at least assume they know what they're doing. I don't have to read it, do I? But what I can't stand is people talking about the private life of someone else online. And I don't care if that other person is an actor, a family member or the ex-boyfriend/girlfriend they want to get back at for dumping them. I also don't care how mean they've been. You just don't do it.
3. What do you think is so special about British telly?
It's hard to think of something that makes British telly as a whole special. It's more like British tv seems to be very good at thinking up really good shows. They mostly don't follow well-trodden paths like US-shows tend to but find something unique. On average, characters on British shows feel more real and the shows never take themselves too serious. There is always some (British) humour involved no matter how dark a show might get.
4. If the Doctor rang your doorbell and would offer you to travel with him to the past or future, which option would you choose and why? Where and when would you go?
Wow, that's a tough one. I think I'd go for the past. I always wanted to know how accurate our image of our ancestors really is. And then I'd either go all the way back to the Celts because we still know so little about them and their believes and I'd love to find out who they really were. Or I'd go back to my gram's youth. I have a portrait of her when she was 18 and I'd really like to know who this woman was so many years before I knew her. Or I'd just let the Doctor surprise me.
5. Is there a book you would love to see made into a film? What would your cast look like?
A (series of) book(s) I've wanted to see translated on screen for a while is George R.R. Marin's "Song of Ice and Fire". They're actually making into a tv show as we speak. I don't know much about the cast aside from Sean Bean playing Ned Stark, king of the north, which I feel is a very good choice.
There are way too many characters to make up my own cast. It's also been quite a while since I've read the books but let me think about some of them: For Catelyn Stark, Ned's wife, I'd go for Julianna Margulies. As for their children, I think Colin Ford would make a good Bran and I can see Adair Tishler as Arya. I can't think of anyone for Jon Snow right now. He has to be one of those young actors who the teenie fangirls will love and who is very likable yet a bit boring as in too flawless. Moving on to the house of Lannister, Cersei should be played by Nicole Kidman because I think she can do cold-hearted very well. Her twin-brother Jaime is my biggest concern because he is my favourite character in the books and he can go so wrong. I always pictured him as Richard Armitage with a little Josh Holloway thrown in. Brienne would be played by Miranda Otto. It bugs me that I can't think of anyone for Melisandre because I have such a clear picture of her in my head. And last bit not least, Daenerys, for some reason, always looks a little like Natalie Portman in my head.
And if you've never read the books you don't have the slightest idea what I'm talking about, do you?
Another book I believe could make a great movie if done right is The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield.

But what I can't stand is people talking about the private life of someone else online. And I don't care if that other person is an actor, a family member or the ex-boyfriend/girlfriend they want to get back at for dumping them. I also don't care how mean they've been. You just don't do it.
Basically, I agree with you, but sometimes you have to vent about real life things (especially if you have - like me - no real life friends anymore). But something like that should definitely be friends locked, and it would be best to avoid names. It certainly doesn't belong in an open message board or something like that. I've seen that several times at the GH, sometimes so explicit that I wondered if those people were still in their right mind.
Celebrity gossip is something I've never understood. That's mostly due to the fact that I don't care about the actor behind a role. I'm only interested in their work; their private lives belongs to them, no one else.
@time travel: I'd prefer to travel to the past as well (Renaissance and 19th century). To be honest, I really don't want to know where we're heading.
You're right, I don't know "Song of Ice and Fire", and I wouldn't read it, not even at gunpoint, but that was a risk I had to take when I asked that question.

Date: 2010-08-05 06:12 am (UTC)I wasn't thinking about friends locked entries when I answered your question. Those are, in my opinion, a different matter as they are only visible to a well defined circle of people. And I agree, you should always avoid names of third parties.
When it comes to actors, I'm ususally not too interested in the actor behind the role either. It's a little different with the Supernatural fandom probably because I've met a few of the actors at cons. But - apart from things they are willing to share themselves - their private lives are off limits for me because I care about them.
May I ask why you so categorically rule out reading "The Song of Ice and Fire"?
