gwaevalarin: (Research)

After the perfect funny episode two weeks ago we got the perfect serious mythology episode this week. Yay show! There were only two little details that I didn't like but I'll get to them later.

I think I'll rather go by character than storyline:

Crowley
How great was that demon? Six decades of deep-seated homophobia? And who would ever have expected for him to just hand the Colt over which, hello, of course isn't loaded. I really enjoyed his cockiness and I hope we'll see him again.

Jo
I never was a big fan of Jo but I did like her in this episode. Which is just typical for me, starting to like a character the episode they die. When she teased Dean just to turn him down by telling him that in her last night on earth she'd like to keep some self respect I thought she was simply amazing.
And later in the shop, mortally wounded, she was so brave. Telling Ellen that this was her last chance to treat her like an adult. Being brave enough to accept that it was over for her but that she could still help. She earned my full respect this episode.
The only thing that ruined it a tiny little bit for me was the kiss. The kiss on the forehead was perfect. It carried the respect and love I think Dean really has for Jo. They should have left it at that.
But way to go out, girl!

Ellen
The moment I realised Ellen would indead be the second character to die I was so broken. I can't believe we lost her. She hasn't been around much lately but she was always there. Somewhere. Just a phone call away. And her death was unnecessary. She was a mother who was just losing her daughter so I understand why she didn't want to go on in that moment. But why did the boys just accept her decision to stay behind? They should have dragged her out with them. And then Jo died in her arms just a moment before she pushed the button.
Which brings us to the second little detail I didn't like: In the end, when they burn the picture it seemed to be all about Jo when to me it feels like Ellen was a much bigger part of the show. She would have deserved a little more attention in that last scene.
I'm going to miss you, Ellen. :(

Bobby
Forced to stay behind and do the research whenever there's a real fight at hand. It's still sad to see him like his.

Sam and Dean
The boys seemed almost pale this week compared to the other characters. Like they were the supporting characters to everyone else. It didn't really bother me during the episode. It just becomes apparent now because I honestly don't have much to say about them.

Castiel
This week it felt like Castiel was really part of the team, like the drinking with Ellen. I like that. And I loved his scenes with Lucifer. The talk about riding cars and about how they're not that different. And of course the scene with Meg. Castiel might slowly be losing his mojo but that just means he'll have to get creative. *g* I want to see more of that.

Lucifer
He is evil. What he did to this town... But somehow, the way Mark plays him, he's still likeable. There's just something about him that makes it impossible to really hate him. I sincerly hope that he won't burn out his vessel too quickly because I'd really like to keep him the way he is now. And of course the Colt doesn't kill him. That would have been too easy. And after all, he's an angel, not a demon.

But what the hell is it with all my fandoms throwing ridiculous amounts of angst at me at the moment? Even the last episode of Merlin was angstyer than usual.

I'd love to see Crowley again too! He's the coolest demon we've seen on this show so far)))
Meg annoys me like hell, always has, so I was damn happy to see Castiel do what he did)))
I loved the moment after Lucifer was shot, when he made this pained sound like "ouch, that hurts". So funny))) I don't think anyone believed for a second the Colt could take him. XDDD
Even the last episode of Merlin was angstyer than usual. Oh yes))) Autumnal depression)))))

I didn't mind the old Meg much even though I didn't particularly like her, either. But the new Meg annoys me, too. And everytime she talks about her "father" I think she means Azazel and then I'm confused until I figure out that she's talking about Lucifer.
Lucifer was adorable after Dean had shot him.

Crowley is awesome! Want to see him again, maybe helping the boys again?

I wish they wouldn't have used Jo in such a random way. IDK We haven't seen her in a long time and suddenly we're supposed to care for her. Of course it was sad (okay, I cried like a little baby *sigh) , but that was more because of the way I feel about Ellen and how it must have felt for her. And I think if they would've used the last two episodes to introduce new and empowered adult!Jo her death would've had a much bigger impact.

I think that Jo got a great exit and I really did like her in her last episode. So I'm pretty content with that. But I didn't mourn her death. I started crying when I realised that Ellen would die with her. And I didn't like that the last scene seemed to be all about Jo when I was missing Ellen and looking for a last, quiet moment to properly say goodbye and let her go.
