If you loved the episode - and from what I've read most people did - you should enjoy it and consider not reading on while I try to figure out and explain why it didn't work for me. At least after having only watched it once. I'm not going to rip the episode to shreds or anything but I just don't want to ruin the collective squeee if you loved it. ;)

Maybe I just wasn't prepared for this or in the wrong mood or something. Maybe I'll get it when rewatching it because I'll know what to expect or whatever.

But for now: The first part of the episode (the Tuesdays) was perfectly fine. I was a little bit spoiled this time so I knew Dean'd die over and over again which left me pretty relaxed when he was shot for the first time. And after that I just couldn't stop giggling. Who'd have thought that Dean being killed could be this funny. I also loved that they brought the Trickster back. Awesome!

BUT. Very, very big BUT: The second part of the episode had some big problems. To be honest, I felt like watching a fanfiction. Dean dies on Wednesday and, sorry, I didn't believe for a second that the Trickster wouldn't undo this. Not in an episode like this. But for now Dean is dead, Sam's worst nightmare has come true and we get the whole lot of ten(!) minutes of the next three months that change Sam forever. Or should change him forever. Supernatural, my beloved show that usually is amazing with character development, does a quick run through what will Sam become after Dean has died. Ten minutes after almost 30 minutes of comedy intro. What the hell? And since they've turned episodes 11 and 12 around I'll take a wild guess and say that everything will be back to "normal" next week. Yes, those three months didn't happen but Sam still remembers them. Which means that Sam should still be the Sam he was after those three months and not the Sam he was on that Thursday. Dean being alive again doesn't just erase the memory of what Sam has been through and what scars that has left.
I don't say the episode didn't have potential. The Trickster trying to teach Sam to let go. How it turns out that he is on their side in some weird way. Getting to see how Sam'll react on Dean's death. Those all are brilliant ideas and things to explore. The parts just didn't seem to fit together.

Just the first part of the episode: Hilarious!
Just the second part of the episode preferably as a two-part series that becomes a huge milestone concerning character development: Could have been amazing - not to mention heartbreaking - if it fits into Kripke's big plan for the show (assuming he has one ;)).
Just the second part changed in some way so Sam doesn't remember as well but we get to explore the what-if situation or Sam finding the Trickster after just a few days or some other way that's not too drastic to squeeze it into such a short time: Could work and be really interesting.
The way it was done: Sorry, no.

*sighs* Well, I guess I can't love every single episode. That's okay. The sad thing is: I love what this episode could/should have been but I don't love what it is.
