Brazil 2008
Nov. 2nd, 2008 08:32 pmI'm so glad this nightmare of a formula 1 season is finally over. And it ended with the clostest and most dramatic fight for the championship I've ever seen. The championship was literally decided in the last corner. And even though it ended badly from my point of view I'm glad I watched it. I wouldn't really have wanted to miss that excitement.
I had almost given up hope when they predicted another rain shower. That was when I saw another chance. Everyone came in to change tyres, just the Toyotas stayed out. And suddenly Hamilton was only 5th instead of 4th. Then Vettel - who once again did an amzing job - started closing in and overtook Hamilton. So in the last lap it looked like luck was on the side I hoped it'd be once again. I was just hoping and begging that Vettel and especially Timo on his dry tyres would be able to bring their positions home. Massa crossed the line and won. Räikkönen and Alonso - who I've dubbed the third Ferrari driver during the last weeks - followed him. Brasil was already celebrating and then in the very last corner I saw Hamilton pass a Toyota. For a split second I hoped that it was Trulli but of course it was Timo, simply not standing a chance with his tyres. He fought with everything he had and of course I won't blame Timo for anything, but it is sad that he of all people up there in front, was the one to cost Massa his championship.
I have to apologies to poor Elanor. I startled her when I cried out the moment I saw that overtaking manoeuvre.
So I guess I have to say goodbye to the chance of Jenson becoming the next British champion now. But hey, the moment I see Jenson become world champion I won't care about that any more, right? I still hate the thought now, though. *sighs*
I'm not a Massa fan at all. I don't like him that much, I don't like Ferrari and the only reason I wanted him to win the championship was that Hamilton wouldn't win it but to be honest: When I saw him up there on the podium, fighting tears... I almost felt like cuddling the poor guy. But that won't happen again, I'm sure.
So, well, at least it is over. Finally. I'm not going to say I can't get worse next year because if I do the Bad World's just going find a way to prove me wrong. But I'll just keep my optimism and hope that things will finally get better again.
Bye for now, F1. And yes, of course I will still miss you.
Edit: Would people stop blaming Timo already. What was he supposed to do? Had he changed tyres he would never have passed Hamilton in the first place. So he neither made a bad choice in staying out on dry tyres nor did he just let Hamilton pass. It is not his fault, damnit!
