I agree, the Castiel we saw at the end of the finale was clearly not the Cas we know. I hope that next season Misha will play him in a way that makes the old Cas at least shine through. If we then get OUR Castiel back at some point, I think I can deal with the "transformation" for a while.
But really, I'm just holding on to every sparkle of hope I can find at this point.
As for Balthazar, I'm sure Cas could bring him back, but as long as he is powerful enough, why would he? He feels betrayed and doesn't understand that Balthazar only did what he did to protect him. And as soon as Cas is himself again - assuming that happens - and might understand, he won't have the power any more to do it. I won't give up hope, but to be honest, I don't really expect him to return.
