Hm. Interesting. I find Balthazar to be very interesting too and I had the same thoughts when he appeared the second time, that he's pissed the Winchesters (Dean) took his friend away.
I also hope to see him again, but I also agree with what you wrote on twitter. Balthie is great, but he can't replace Gabriel.
And if someone looks into it it's easy to realize that they are not that similar. Even their reasons for leaving Heaven and their brothers behind was completely different even if it might seem similar at first look.
