They are so screwed.
So, Kripke, you finally found your sense of humour again underneath all the angst? I'm not saying that the episode was just fun and no angst. But it was more... balanced. A little more season 1 which was nice for a change.
"Dad wants us to pick up..." Yeah, we all know that by... "Breaking News"? WTF? That really caught me by surprise. A little like the "Wayward Son" songvid at the beginning of Salvation. The "Breaking News" just started literally in the middle of the word. Great effect. You got me there for a second, Kripke.

So obviously we're watching the scene of a bank robbery with hostages. There's police and and a S.W.A.T. team and suddenly the door opens and the camera catches Dean, a rifle in his hand, pushing out a terrified security guard. What the...?
One day earlier:
Our two favourite boys pose as FBI agents and interogate two people in a jewelery store about one of their co-workers who broke into the store, stole the jewelery, shot the night watchman in the face and later killed herself at home. Well, Sam is interogating the manager. Dean's rather flirting with the girl and getting her number. Looks like the old Dean is back. *g* And what the hell is up with Sam's hair? Do FBI agents get hair gel for free and Sam thought he'd be more authentic if he put tons of it into his hair or something?

Sam and Dean drive to Ronald who was the security guard on duty when something same M.O. as in the jewelery store happend in a bank a month earlier. They learn that Ronald is a believer X-Files style and he caught something on the security tape that makes him believe that the thing that robbed the bank and the jewelery store wearing an employees face is a "mandroid" with laser eyes. It's funny that as crazy as he sounds he's not even that far away from the truth. Of course it's not a "mandroid" but a shapeshifter and the "laser eyes" are the retinal reaction to video but except for that he got it right. And Dean is impressed:

Sam tells him something about camera flairs and stuff and I'm just waiting for him to get out one of those memory altering MIB flash thingies. Ronald kicks them out.
And Dean is a little confused. Ronald figured out so much by himself. He may be a little too excited about all this but in a way he still deserved to know that he's not nuts and that there is something "inhuman" going on. Sam straight out lied to him. He states that he wanted to keep Ronald save:
"Better to stay in the dark, and stay alive."
And, yeah, I get that. But it's not like Ronald'll stop believing his theorie because an FBI agent told him. Especially since he probably belives there's some kind of conspiracy.
Is it just me or is "Yeah, I guess." Dean's way of saying "I don't agree but I don't want to argue about it rigth now."
They find the bank the shapeshifter will most like rob next. Our FBI agents become technicians and go to the observation room looking for shape shifter eyes on the screens. Eyes, Dean...
"Okay. Well, you got any popcorn?"
Finally they find their shapeshifter. Just when Ronald enters the bank, chains the front door shut and enters the main hall with a rifle. Well, so much for keeping him save by lying to him.
"This is not a robbery! Everybody on the floor! Now!"
Erm... okay. That doesn't sound strange at all... And the front door is the only way in and out? Seriously?
Sam and Dean walk into the main hall. Of course they have to do something but I'm not sure if walking (almost) unarmed into the room where the guy with the rifle is, especially since Sam didn't make too good of an impression the last time, is the brightest idea. Ronald tells one of the other hostages to frisk them - May I? I'll frisk them very thoroughly but maybe still miss the knife. - and now they are really unarmed.

Dean sees that they have to try and work with Ronald here so he tell's him that the bank manager is the shapeshifter... mandroid. Whatever. He's able to convince Ronald to let him help while they lock everyone else including Sam up in the vault.
"Who is that man?"
"He's my brother."
"He is so brave."

*giggles*
Roland "finds" the shapeshifter's skin. Gross! So now it could be anyone again but at least there's a letter opener made of silver in the room so Dean now has something to kill the shapeshifter with as soon as he finds out who it is.
Dean explains to Ronald what they are really dealing with, Ronald is happy that he's not nuts and then suddenly the lights go out. The police cut the power which means no cameras to identify the shapeshifter. Just great.
Inside the vault Sherry is still rambling about how great Dean is and Sam still wishes that she'd just shut up. When Dean opens the door, Sherry looks like she's close to fainting. But then he locks in a few more people. Well, Sherry, looks like Dean's not the kind of hero you thought he was. And you know what? That's exactly why I love the Winchester boys. *g*
Dean gives Sam a silver letter opener and a short update on their situation. It doesn't look too good: There's a shapeshifter in the bank. There's the police outside the bank and Dean is still wanted for murder. And there's Ronald who did a good job in figuring out what's going on but who's not the brightest guy when he's in the field.
"Look, I know this isn't going the way we wanted..."
"Understatement!"
Dean wants to search the place to make sure ther's no one else in the building. So he asks Sam to keep an eye on Ronald and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid which will be a lot of fun since Ronald can't stand Sam - and vice versa - but:
"Yeah, Ron's game plan was a bad plan, I mean, it was a bit of a crazy plan, but right now crazy's the only game in town, okay?"
Sam opens the door to the vault to give the people inside some fresh air. Awww! Meanwhile Ronald answers the phone and chats to the police a little. *headdesk* The guard seems to be getting a heart attack but of course Sam can't just let him go before they know who the shapeshifter is. But he's Sam so he's not willing to just let him die either. He talks to the police outside and asks them to send in a paramedic.
Dean finds the body of one of the people who are in the vault. So at least now we know who's the shapeshifter. But Dean can hardly stab him in front of everyone so he tries to lure him out of the vault. The shapeshifter attacks Dean and gets away.
Ronald wants to follow Dean and gets in the open. Sam sees the laser sight at his back but it's too late. Ronald gets shot and falls to the floor dead. The slow motion and the silence make this scene really dramatic. And it's not the fact that Ronald dies and I don't even think it's the fact that they couldn't save him but that it could have been Sam or Dean. Of course they are far better trained and are much more careful. But it's just one wrong move. Plus they know how to deal with supernatural creatures but somehow the police, S.W.A.T. teams... that's something different.

But there's no time to think about this. Sam goes after the shapeshifter and Dean brings out the guard. We're now where the episode started. Sam calls Dean to tell him that he has found another skin. And again they have no idea who the shapeshifter is. And things are getting even worse. The FBI arrives and Agent Hendrickson takes over.
"Something's not right about this. It's, uh, it's not going down like a usual heist."
"That's because it isn't one. You have no idea what you're dealing with, do you? There is a monster in that bank, Robards."
It's not that he's wrong. There IS a monster in the bank, the shapeshifter. Gordon'd say the monster is Sam. And Hendrickson's talking about Dean. Funny, how different perspectives can end with the same conclusion.
Dean locks everyone up in the vault again and then talks to Hendrickson over the phone.
"I want you and Sam out here, unarmed. Or we come in. And yes, I know about Sam. Bonnie to your Clyde."
"Yeah, well, that part's true, but how'd you even know we were here?"
Bonnie to your Clyde? WTF?!
Hendrickson knows pretty much about our boys and John though he should stop talking about Daddy like that. Arg! I can't stand Hendrickson anyway. He's after the Winchester boys. But I hate him even more in that scene. Poor Dean.

It's a little strange that Hendrickson doesn't react on Dean saying "He was a hero." at all. Last time the FBI didn't know John was dead. Hendrickson says that he was looking for them for weeks. I'm staring to wonder if Gordon's something to do with all this. He's in custody so he could as well have talked to the police and told them things that made the situation worse for Sam and Dean. He did a lot of research before he started hunting Sam and I'm sure he knew that Dean's in the FBI database. So why shouldn't he try to make the police do the job for him?
"You don't know these Winchesters. They're dangerous, smart, and expertly trained."
"We can't risk the lives of all those people."
"Trust me, Dean's a greater risk to them than we are."
"This is crazy."
"Crazy's in there. And I just hung up on it."
Hey, that's my boys you're talking about here. *angry*
Sam finds Sherry's body, throat slit. So they tell the "other Sherry" that they're going to let her go. When she sees her own dead body she starts screaming and faints. Well, that was easy.

Which means there's something wrong so Sam stops Dean from stabbing here. The supposedly dead version of Sherry aka the shapeshifter opens her eyes, attacks Dean. Again. And flees. Again. At the same time the S.W.A.T. team enters the building through a broken window or something like that. They "rescue" Sherry and then go looking for the boys. So now we have the shapeshifter running around in the building and the S.W.A.T. team. Things are just getting better and better.
Sam fights some policemen, knocking two of then down, and Dean fights the shapeshifter while she ... shapeshifts. Eww!
Ouch! I'm sure that hurt. Finally Dean stabs her. And just when he kneels beside her body, blood on his hands, someone enters the room.
Hell, Sam! That's mean scaring your brother (and me by the way) like that.
When Hendrickson enters the bank, his poeple've just found two bodys, one of them Sherry's "twin" and two members of the S.W.A.T team stripped to their underwear on the floor.
Sam and Dean, in those two men's uniforms run to the Impala parked at a parking lot and drive away. That was close.

"We are so screwed."

Wasn't that just great? I was like: Huh? No! Not another broken fi- oh wait. There's Jensen? Dean!!! :D
Looks like the old Dean is back. *g*
'bout damn time, dude! *g*
And what the hell is up with Sam's hair? Do FBI agents get hair gel for free and Sam thought he'd be more authentic if he put tons of it into his hair or something?
I was like "Okay, not even 3 minutes into that ep and I'm already distracted by Sam's hair. Again."
I want the S1-haircut back.
*thud*
Erm... Where was I? Ah.
I'm just waiting for him to get out one of those memory altering MIB flash thingies.
*giggles insanely*
Is it just me or is "Yeah, I guess." Dean's way of saying "I don't agree but I don't want to argue about it rigth now."
No, it's not just you. It's another Winchester "codeword" for something completely different. Like the "Bitch!" - "Jerk!"-thingie.
Eyes, Dean...
I'm getting there... *giggles*
My Dean is back! At least sort of. *squishes him* &hearts
And the front door is the only way in and out? Seriously?
Mein Gedanke? "Wer zur Hölle hat denn den Bauplan genehmigt?" :Ex-Baugewerbe:
I'll frisk them very thoroughly
I'd do that, too, but not in public. Might get a bit too NC-17... *heh*
"Who is that man?"
"He's my brother."
"He is so brave."
I just had to laugh out loud at that remark of the blonde. *lol* I was like "Awwww, poor Sammy!" *pets him*
The slow motion and the silence make this scene really dramatic.
My reaction? "RONALD! NOOOOOO!!!"
I liked him. He was a geekboy, so I had to like him.
Bonnie to your Clyde? WTF?!
*koffs*Wincest*/koffs* *ggg*
Hendrickson knows pretty much about our boys and John though he should stop talking about Daddy like that.
Nobody's talking smack about my John when I'm being around, boy! I wanted to jump into the screen and strangle that hendrickson-guy. Argh!
And I agree with your thoughts about Gordon telling the police so much about the winchesters.
The supposedly dead version of Sherry
Why the heck didn't Dean notice that she's still breathing? Even I saw that... *shakes head* Oh dean...
