Liveblogging SPN

Because I won't have time for a review

I swear if you kill Sarah... I won't even be surprised.

Haha, five minutes into the episode and I want to throw something against my screen. In the hopes of hitting Dean's head.

I DON'T WANT TO HEAR CASTIEL APOLOGIZE EVER AGAIN! I'VE HAD ENUGH OF THAT FOR AN ANGEL'S LIFE TIME, OKAY?

It's an angel tablet, it's about his family. It's Castiel's business a million times more than it could possibly ever be the Winchesters'. And Dean has not exactly been giving Castiel a lot of reasons to trust him - particularly when other angels are involved - so cut this crap, Dean. And cut this crap, show.

If this season ends once again with Castiel sacrificing himself to "make up for his mistakes" - and by "his mistakes" I mean "not doing exactly what Dean wants him to do" - I might actually break my tv.

This is the exact sort of bullship that made me break up with you, and only stuck around for the angels.

On a much happier note, I loved the little scene between Castiel and Sam. And I love that Sam isn't taking a side, and even speaks up for Cas.
I really wish we could have more interaction between these two. I wish the show would finally allow them to properly develop their friendship/show more of it on screen.

If the Winchester's don't need Castiel's help, can they just part ways for good? Because the really, really should have done that seasons ago. Just let each other go, and move on with their respective lives.
Oh, wait, that would be a potentially healthy/sensible thing to do, and we never do those on SPN. Sorry, I forgot. My mistake.

Okay, can we just stop with the using Cas as a comic relief stuff that makes no actual sense for Castiel's character. He isn't a clumsy child who will knock over stuff. He wouldn't threaten people over food. *just tries at this point*

Oh, Castiel and Metatron! Yay!
I'm still haven't really formed an opinion in Metatron, but angels amongst themselves scenes are always appreciated.
So, apperently they have never met before, and Castiel seems to be fanboying just a tiny little bit, and Metatron wants to learn about home - but really seems to know more than Cas.
Didn't Metatron basically say that the archangels started all this mess? And now suddenly it's a mess without them? Or did they just start something that inevitably turned into a mess without them?
Either way, I guess that cements that there are/were 4 archangels in the Supernatural universe, which I think does work better for the show than having another 3 somewhere.

So, wait, there is basically another civil war going on in Heaven right now? Just with a lot more than two sides this time? Is that was Metatron is telling me? (And how does he know?)

I love this talk about the angels as a disfunctional family, and a big family meeting where they'll work through their problems. Not sure it'll work but I love the idea.
I also love the idea of Castiel working with Metatron and being allowed to concentrate on his own family for a change.
Yes, please.

I have this vague feeling that the demon curing storyline will require a lot of suspension of disbelief.

So basically Metatron wants to close the Gates of Heaven to force the angels into their family meeting.
Good things about that:
1) It looks like the inevitable closing the gates of Heaven storyline will actually be about the angels.
2) This may turn into a proper Castiel and Metatron working together storyline
Bad things about that:
1) Isn't closing the gates pretty damn permanent? Metatron does not make it sound that way, so maybe not?
2) Wanna bet that Castiel will end up on the wrong (and by that I mean Earthly) side of the gates when they close?

Oh, confirmation that there are different types of angels, and that soldier is just one possibility. Though, erm, the last few seasons prove that Castiel has plenty of brains himself, thank you.

But no, I like this. I like that it is about the angels needing Cas (though still with a hint of "and it may help humanity" as well). I like that it is Metatron who asks. I like that Castiel does have a choice. He could say no. If he does this, he will choose freely to help his family.
There is just something... off about it.

Nephilim? You're introducing Nephilim? *excited*
But there is only one in existence? So, did her ancestor's survive the flood? Or is she a child of another angel who broke the rules way, way after the Watchers fell.
Okay, okay, he little angel mythology fangirl will shut up now and let the show make up its own mythology.

Either way, there definitely are angels who broke this particular rule. Gabriel? Balthazar? I assume that they were smart enough not to produce any offspring, but it does make Castiel's surprised "Isn't it forbidden?" sound a little strange. Actually, Castiel sounding surprised that an angel would do something they aren't allowed to in itself is strange.

If the Trials are not acceptable, couldn't they try to find another way to get the angels together? Closing the gates to Heaven was just an idea, right? It's not like it's the last resort, all angels will die if we don't do this, or anything. It feels like they haven't even really thought about this plan yet. Or Metatron hasn't properly explained why he thinks it's the best/only one. And what exactly it will mean for the angels. So, erm... can we get a little more on that, please?
Because right now it feels like a "we want Castiel to have to close the gates of Heaven, and make tought decisions to do so, so we'll just half-ass a reason" storyline.
Again, I like the general direction (edit: NOT closing the gates. Just Castiel having helping his family as a motivation. Just to be clear.) It's just way too vague at this point.

Still no Sarah. At least that means she's still alive.

Oh, the Winchesters are bringing Abaddon back. Nice to meet you, Knight of Hell. I have been meaning to go back and watch your episode just because of all the Tumblr posts I saw about you.

Oh, the first scene finally means something for the episode. Still worried about Sarah.

You leave a Knight of Hell alone, and then you're surprised she escapes? Okay.

See, this episode is why I never say I want characters back anymore.

Oh, Chuck's books. Nice explanation for how Crowley knows.

I don't like this Trial.

sarah! :D
And the look in Sam's face. OTP! Always OTP, no matter how many seasons ago they met.

This Trial just got a whole less complicated when the nice innocent Nephilim is not so inncoent after all. Or something? It was basically self defense.
But a Nephilim who is (almost) stronger than two angels, one of which is a soldier. Erm... what?

Sarah!
And she still IS the Sarah I remember. Scared but brave. Adapts very quickly to impossibly sitautions. Oh god, I missed her. And I do not want to see her die.
Though I do not see how their plan with Devil's Traps and exorcisms will get them anywhere. So Crowley will move on to another victim and then just come back and kill her later. She has to leave the appartment at some point.

So, she is engaged/married(?), and has a daughter, and she is fine and got out? Do not kill her. Please!

Awww, could she be more perfect? She does see he isn't well right now, but she still concentrates on the things she can see he has achieved, and she still cares and just... asdfghjkl.

No, no, no, no, NOOOOOO!

Crowley's mother was a witch? Intersting little tidbit.

Sarah... *sobs*
Stop bringing back characters I love just to kill them off. Just stop already!
It's not sad and tragic anymore. It hasn't been for a long time. It's just stupid. And so horribly overdone.

I watch show focussed on very different things than you because a lot of times I couldn't care less about the angel-stories.

But there are some things we probably very much agree on.

Frankensteining Abaddon back together in the first place was a stupid move. If you found a way to get rid of someone THAT powerful you just don't mess with it. Especially since the only thing they really needed was any random demon. So why why why would you go for one of the most powerful. Getting the cure to work is hard enough and I would expect that it takes a lot less to do it with a "normal" demon, not one that stands above the rules for regular demons in many ways.
I know, I know it's probably just a move from the writers to get her back and another powerful player into the game, but still - I hate it when the boys are being stupid and like they haven't learned anything from the last years.
Plus - IF you already go for someone like her, don't turn your back on her. Just assuming that she won't find a way out is - again - stupid and reckless. I know, Crowley knows how to rile them up but still.

Sarah - nononononono - the moment I realized that she would come into play as Crowley's object lesson I knew they wouldn't be able to save her.
And I hate that. For one - there goes my OTP for Sam. She was the one after Jess. There was a reason why Dean told Sam to marry her.
And she got out and got on with her life and still understood Sammy so well and I loed that moment between them (except the hair thing...that was just you making a joke, Sarah , right...because that was right in the beginning of him starting to outgrow his bangs so no, Season 8 hair - much better...might be one of my faves in general even)
Plus - killing her means it's another one for the hook-up-with-Sam-and-die rule. I liked that she was an exception to that.
The way he was talking about saving her reminded me also very much of how he desperately held on to the idea of saving Madison. In many ways it's similar because with both it wasn't just a random hook-up, there was a real connection there and in different circumstances they could have had a future together.

I do love Cas-Sam interactions. I mean, there were a lot of times I was mad a Cas for what he was doing to Sam, but Sam can forgive and forget. He made mistakes with good intentions as well and he's been on the receiving end of Dean's disappointment a lot himself ("because it's Cas" is totally him saying "because he is family"). In a lot of ways Sam and Cas are a lot alike. We have seen this reaction from Dean to both of them in the past and I'm sure we will see it again. I don't think he will ever change in that way. Dean was always and will always be a hypocrite. He is very much a do as I say not do as I do guy. And he is always especially harsh when he feels betrayed by the people closest to him. He will get over it.

Crowley - as much as I like Mark, I think at this point they really have to get rid of him for good. It's time to move on to other villains.

...wow I really started rambling...
time to get of LJ and pack for Rome.

I can't really comment much on Abaddon, because I haven't seen her first episode. (Yet. She really makes me want to watch it now).
But yeah, even I got that she is pretty damn powerful, and they took almost no precautions and then just left her there on her own. How are these boys not dead yet?

About Sarah: What I hate most about it is that there was absolutely no reason to bring her back after 7 years only to kill her off. Except to show how EVIL Crowley is and we already knew that. And yeah, throw on the husband/fiance (still not sure) and kid just to make it extra horrible.
Her death will have no real impact whatsoever. She will just be forgotten.
I loved Sarah. She was one of my very favourite characters on the show, and even though I saw this coming, I hate that she was used like this. Like so many other characters before her. And I'm sure so many others who will follow.

Cas and Sam: There is so much potential to explore here. Because like you say, they do have quite a bit in common, and they could really be friends. If the show would just let them.

Crowley: I kind of agree, but the only reason why it is time to move on to another villain is because they made him an actual villain in the first place. Crowley was great as being evil without actually being the big bad. And yeah, now that they took that away, it's either going to be kill him, or "cure" him. I don't like either, but since it's probably inevitable now, I'll rather take kill him - and let him go out in a blaze of evil glory.

See you in Rome. :)

I agree so much! Just ranted pretty much about the same thing on Twitter - b/c what the hell!? I've had enough of Dean and his sense of entitlement! Why is family only important when it's Dean's family!?
You leave a Knight of Hell alone, and then you're surprised she escapes? Okay. I wonder if the writers even realize that they make their superheroic main characters look and act like utter morons. God, I'm so annoyed right now. Why am I even watching this show? Well, maybe for Crowley. XD

I talked to a few people at the con in Rome, and pretty much everyone commented in how utterly stupid the Winchesters were during the scene with Abaddon.

I can't even say I'm surprised about any of the bs this show pulls anymore.
The angels (and maybe Crowley) are the only reason I'm still watching. Unfortunately that's the last group of characters you should care about on this show because the only one who gets screwed over more than they do is Adam.
