Now that I've seen both films, I'm not sure if you can even really compare The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. But since they are the two big superhero movies of the year, I'll still try:

The Dark Knight rises has the darker, more realistic, and possibly even smarter storyline.

The Avengers has a lot more heart and soul.

While I enjoyed The Dark Knight Rises as good storytelling - the endless first hour aside. They really should have cut parts of that - it never touched me the way The Avengers did. I didn't fall in love with the characters as I did with everyone on The Avengers, main and secondary characters alike.

To me, it feels like The dark Knight Rises is the more sophisticated movie, while The Avengers is the more emotional movie. And since I respond more strongly to emotions, The Avengers gave me a lot more to connect to.

So bottom line, I don't think one movie was better than the other, but in my personal movie of the year list, The Avengers is still leading by miles.

Can we please talk about how flawless The Avengers is?
I went to see that movie with pretty high expectations, and I was still blown away. I'm talking 'I want to rewatch and write an analysis for single scenes, characters and character relationships' kind of perfect.

*I'm sorry, Loki. I still love you, and I would have kneeled. I would have come to Stuttgart just to kneel if you had told me about your plans to stop by there.
