Of Allies, Foes And (Not So) Innocent Souls

I basically watched this episode for Naomi, so I'll focus on her, but there are some general (somewhat rant-y, you've been warned) thoughts if when you scroll further down.

Naomi
I was kind of hoping for Naomi to rip Dean a new one when they finally meet, but now that I see it, I actually think I like her politeness better.

Yes, she is spinning the truth the way she wants it, but so does Dean, so it's only fair. I don't think she is actually lying, though. Not about the part where she wanted to help Cas. "Bring him in from the cold." I like this phrase. I generally like her choice of words when she talks about Castiel in all her episodes. "Home", "rescue", "in from the cold".

It is also the truth that Naomi and the Winchesters do have some common goals, or at least a common enemy. They are somewhat on the same side when it comes to closing the gates of Hell (would that mean that Heaven gets every soul?). But that doesn't make them friends.

Naomi's politeness it really only that. She has no reason to like the Winchesters, or care about them in any way other than it may give her an advantage to earn their trust and work with them for the moment. And that's exactly what she's doing and offering: Cooperation. And if she needs to manipulate Dean a little to get that, fine. Why shouldn't she? He has brought so much harm to her family, why should she care if she ends up hurting him? Why shouldn't she bend the truth if it serves her goals? Goals that, don't forget, are all about keeping her own family save.

I love, love, love her last scene. The current leader of Heaven(?) confronting the King of Hell about a single soul. They can be civil as long as everything goes by the rules. In an eternal war that is how you keep things balanced. But she will challenge him and threaten him when he doesn't let the soul, that rightfully belongs in Heaven, go freely.

I also love Crowley for his warning: Don't team up with them. They'll screw you over. Basically implying that he, the King of Hell, is still more trustworthy than the Winchesters. But Naomi doesn't plan on trusting the Winchesters. And she doesn't plan on truly taking their side. She is on Heaven's side, right now she probably is Heaven's side, and will never be anywhere else.

And when Crowley is gone, and Naomi has control of the soul: The gentle flick of her hand. The way she looks at the soul with almost a hint of wonder, like not even she will never get used to how beautiful they are once they are freed.
The peaceful and proud smile on Naomi's face when she sends it home.

Everything I love about Naomi, everything I wish she will end up being, everything I want her to be for Heaven, Naomi's entire potential, visible in a single scene. <3

General thoughts and plot holes
I'm pretty annoyed by how they played the 'save an innocent soul from Hell' storyline.
One, I would have preferred to keep the mystery about where vengeful spirits go. Or if there is an answer, I was hoping for non-existence. That's tragic, yes, but it seems the logical conclusion for the entire 'If you don't go with your Reaper right away, there is no second chance'. But I guess, 'If you don't go with your Reaper right away the only way left is down' works too. Crowley should send thank you cards to the entire ghost hunter community.
Except that's not the reason the show gave for Bobby being in Hell. No, really, is there a reason you don't go with the obvious answers that actually work with your established attempt of a mythology?
And while we're at it, *headdesk* at the portal between Purgatory and Hell (that does go in BOTH directions). Wasn't Crowley looking for Purgatory ALL OF SEASON SIX.

Two, not to doubt that Bobby was a great guy and all that, but he hardly qualifies as an "innocent soul". Not when he was alive, and certainly not after he turned vengeful spirit.
You know who certainly does qualify as an innocent soul? Adam. Who lived a normal life, until he was killed by a ghoul, then was brought back by angels, did everything they asked of him, and found himself in Hell for it. I'm pretty sure that qualifies as 'innocent' in every version of the obscure ever changing rule book of Heaven and Hell.
I cannot believe that they wasted this perfect opportunity to finally give his storyline proper closure. But fine, I'll just stay bitter about the way he was just dropped and forgotten forever then.

Benny, welcome to the club of the abandoned, screwed over and killed (not necessarily in this order). Here have your membership card. If you have any questions, please refer to our gold membership holders Castiel and Adam. Samandriel is handing out refreshment, and our honorary member Kol is responsible for the entertainment (which may or may not involve bashing people's heads in).
I do get that Benny wanted to stay in Purgatory, but was it really necessary to add the sacrifice instead of just letting him freely make that decision for himself? Not to mention the next episode of 'Oh, no, Dean, you have nothing to feel guilty about, you poor thing.' Just... not even talking about that anymore.

Poor Kevin. Bad Crowley.

Shhh, I still love you, Crowley, you magnificent evil bastard.

Why can Crowley kill a Reaper with an angel blade, resulting in what looks like Grace when he dies? Are Reapers some special kind of angel all of a sudden? I could swear they used to be under Death's command.

I see you've redecorated again, Crowley. I think I liked the old version better. It was hopeless in a more subtle way which I think worked better for our King of Hell. The new one is so horribly cliché.
