I don't really know much about the franchise apart from the movie and the BBC show. But RDJ's and Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock are certainly two very different versions of the same character.

I can't say I saw much of the Master in Moriarty. Well, at least not John Simm's Master. Sure, they're both batshit crazy but I enjoy the Master's version of crazy a lot more.
