Hockenheim 2006 Saturday

I'm officially dead.

My father and I went to Hockenheim again which is becoming a nice tradition... or could become if there will still be a race at Hockenheim next year.

about 7:30a.m.
We are hitting the road to Hockenheim after saying goodbye to my cat who looked completely tired and confused that we were leaving so early on a saturday. I took us about 2 hours to get to the track. I just had been to Hockenheim once, last year but everything looked and felt so familiar: the car park, the footpath to the track, the fan area, the stage... first thing we did was looking at the programm for the autograph sessions. I had hoped that maybe Ant would be there with Honda having their 300th race so I searched for his name and saw that he had an autograph session at 12:45p.m. and I looked through the timetable who else'd be there and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw: 16:15 Jenson Button and Rubens Barichello. I just stood there squeeeing and there was no doubt where I'd be after the 3rd practice and the qualifying. That day just had to get great.
Next thing was to get tickets but unfortunately "Zusatzribüne Süd" where we sat last year and where you can see the whole Motodrom was sold out. But we got tickets for the "Innentribüne" and so in the end we could see the same part of the track from another angle. We just had to walk a little further to get there.

11a.m. 3rd practice
I have to admit I missed the results because I was too busy watching Jenson and Jacques. But I noticed that the Honda did quite good in that session which I was really happy about.

Jenson on the track:

After the practice we went straight back to the stage and I was really lucky because there wasn't much of a queue yet. First Alex Wurz came on stage:

Then Ant was there and I really made it up there to get an autograph. And the first thing I noticed when I was standing there in front of Ant were his eyes. They are just... wow! And Ant was just really cute and he almost seemed to be a bit shy. Awww!

I can't believe I don't have a single pic where you see his eyes.

There was still some time till the Qualifying so we walked around the fan area for a while and then slowly back to our stand.

Jacques' BMW. Well, of course not the one he was driving obviously:

And while my father got something to drink and I was standing there with my flag(s) and my "Best of British" t-shirt this guy came over to me asking me "English?" and I didn't really know if he wanted to know if I was or if I spoke english and when I asked him he said "You are english?" which sounded more like a statement than a question. *laughs* and then he told me that Jenson'd have an autograph session later which I already knew but I thought it was really nice of him to tell me.

14p.m. Qualifying
The only thing I was hoping for the Quali today was that Jenson'd make it into the second part. Then at one point he was 17th and when he passed our stand on his next and last flying lap he was right behind one of the Red Bull(?) and I really thought that'd screw up his lap but he was 10th after that lap (11th at the end of the first 15 minutes) and I was really content with that. In the second part of the Quali he was fastest for a while but I didn't think that meant a lot then because there were a lot of cars on the track I thought would probably be faster in the end. But when the time was up he still was 3rd and I honestly I didn't really care that much that Jacques and Mark were out 11th and 14th because what Jenson did there on the track was just amazing. And with him being 4th in the end I was just sitting there grinning and being totally happy because that result was something I just hadn't expected at all. I mean: 4th. Wheee! I guess the bad world took a break today.

Jenson during the Quali:

After the Quali we went back to the stage again to be as early as possible for the autograph session. There was a big crowd waiting there already but most of them were waiting for Massa and Gene who were supposed to be there after the Honda boys. So I was waiting in the queue for an hour about where I had waited for Ant earlier.

Me waiting for Jenson:

When Jenson came on stage he was obviously happy with the Quali. Unfortunately I didn't see much of him because some security guy was blocking my sight but he talked about the Quali, the weekend and the fans a bit and I have to admit I don't remember much about what he said because I was so carried away by his voice. Of course I know his voice but somehow it's just different when he's really sitting there a few meters away from you and you listen to him.
I was quite close to the stage when they stopped signing. They didn't really get much time up there. It seemed like Jenson'd have stayed longer because when they were supposed to come to the front of the stage he was standing there quickly signing two or three more pictures. *smiles*

Jenson, please: Shave!

After that Massa and Gene were having their autograph session and the place was crowded and almost completely red. So we sort of fled for a while.

Am I the only one who thinks that Dornboos looks like Nicholas Lea especially in this pic?

Awww! I love Christian and Dornboos in this one.

Well that was when the day ended and we slowly walked back to our car to get home.

Oh, and a note to Ant and Christian: You are on the best way to make in into the circle of my favourite drivers. We can talk about this if you drive next season. But till then stop being so adorable. Both of you. Because that's not fair.

So, I'm really tired so I'm going to sleep now and dream of a candle light dinner with Jenson.
No, you don't have to understand. *giggles*
